Zoom is ending support for the Zoom Chrome OS app, but that does not mean that you will no longer be able to use Zoom on ChromeOS devices. This article will give you the basic info you need to continue using Zoom with ChromeOS and Chromebooks.
What is a ChromeOS app vs. a PWA App?
In 2013 Google released what was referred to as "ChromeOS apps"; these were apps that ran outside of the web browser on devices using Google's ChromeOS, typically Chromebooks. As time passed, this model became outdated, and PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) were introduced.
OK, so... what's changing?
All ChromeOS app support has ended from Google; all software vendors are now ending support for their ChromeOS apps and phasing them out. Zoom will fully phase out the Zoom Chrome OS app by February 1, 2023.
How do I continue using Zoom on a ChromeOS device?
If you're working for a company with an IT department and your device is managed by them, they likely have already migrated you over to the new version of Zoom. You'll want to verify with them if this has been done.
If you do not have an IT department and/or your device is not managed by an organization, you can download the new app from the Google Play Store or by going to http://pwa.zoom.us/wc
