In this article we'll show you how to back your Mac up to a network drive using Time Machine.
Connecting to the Network Drive
First we need to confirm we are connected to the network drive.
Step 1. In Finder, you should see the network drive listed under "Shared".
Step 2. In the main section of the Finder window, you should see "Connected as: <<Your Name>>. If you do see this, skip to Step 4.
Step 3. If you don't see "Connected as" you'll probably see "Not Connected", with a button saying "Connect" to the right hand side of the window.
Click "Connect"
Enter your user details as Follows -
User: First Name
Pass: Provided by SSI
and connect.
Now we'll set up Time Machine.
Step 4. Click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of your screen and choose "System Preferences". Click on Time Machine.
You'll see the following screen -
Step 5. Click on "Select Backup Disk" - you'll see the following:
Step 6. Select the shared drive and click "Use Disk"
Step 7. If you are asked to enter your username and password, use the same details as in step 3 and click Connect.
You should now see a countdown saying Automatic Backup should begin in 120 seconds, and the Time Machine slider should now be set to "On".
