Laptops/Notebooks with T2 chip:
1. Shut down and power off your Mac.
2. Using the built-in keyboard, hold down Control, Option (Alt), and Shift.
3. While holding down the 3 above keys wait 8 seconds and then hold down the power button as well.
4. Keep holding all four keys for another 8 seconds, then release them.
5. Wait 30 seconds and then press the power button on your device.
Desktop Devices with T2 chip:
1. Shut down and unplug your Mac from its power source.
2. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the Mac back into its power source.
3. Wait 10 seconds and then press the power button to power your device on.
Older Devices:
MacBook Pro 2009-2017, MacBook Air introduced in 2017 and earlier, and all MacBook models except the MacBook 13-inch Mid 2009 with a removable battery:
1. Shut down and power off your Mac.
2. Using the built-in keyboard, hold down Shift, Control, Option.
3. In addition to the above keys, press and hold the power button as well.
4. Keep holding all 4 keys down for 10 seconds.
5. Release all the keys, press power, and turn your Mac back on.
