Issue: When I run a file search (Spotlight search) on my Mac, it does not show file search results that include items in my Google Drive.
Description: If you use the magnifying glass in the top menu of your Mac to search for files on your computer, you are using the function Apple officially calls "Spotlight". If you use Google Drive, and sync your files to your computer using the Google Drive app, Spotlight does not search your Google Drive by default, unless you configure Google Drive to do that.
The fix:
- Click your Google Drive menu bar icon, click the Gear within it, then choose "Preferences".
- In the preferences window, there is another gear. Click that gear:
- You're now in the Google Drive sync tool preferences pane. Here, click the "Enable Spotlight to search streaming files" checkbox (ensure it is checked).
- Google Sync will restart, and afterwards any search for files you conduct using the macOS Spotlight app will show results that include files from your Google Drive.
